Art Projects for Kids (Cardboard Tube Owls, Cupcake Wrapper Flowers, Tissue Paper Night-Lights, )

Tissue Paper Night-Lights

Tissue Paper Night-Lights

Create a design-it-yourself night-light using everyday materials and a spark of creativity.

  • tissue paper
  • jar
  • glue
  • water
  • paintbrushes
  • battery-operated tea lights

  • paper plate

  1. Any kind of glass jar is perfect for this project... you can use a jelly jar, a fancy-shaped jar, a baby food jar--whatever you like.
  2. First choose your favorite colors, and either cut or tear them into smallish bits. (It's always fun to tear up paper!) Then add a splash of water and a bit of glue into a small bowl, and mix the two liquids together.
  3. You may choose to cover your entire jar with glue at this point, or to work in smaller areas--it's up to you! Madeleine chose to work in sections, spreading her colors around
  4. We set the jar outside to dry for a bit, then noticed that it had a few "empty" spots... Madeleine decided that just wouldn't do, so she repeated the last two steps (hooray for adding more color!)
  5. Then it was really done! Put on a lid, if you think it should have one (paint the lid first, if you'd like), and then go find exactly the right spot for your beautiful new light-light. Perfect!

Cupcake Wrapper Flowers

Cupcake Wrapper Flowers

  • scissors
  • pipe cleaners
 1.
                                                                                              2.
3.
                                                                                              4.
5.
                                                                                               6.

Cardboard Tube Owls

  • cardboard tubes (toilet paper or paper towel tubes) (paper towel or toilet paper tubes)
  • scrap paper / recycled paper
  • pipe cleaners
  • googly eyes
  • felt
  • tacky glue
Gather empty toilet paper rolls around the house. We have a box where we store our trash-to-treasure supplies, which comes in handy for projects like this.
Fold the top of the toilet paper rolls down toward the middle to form the owls ears.
Cut up various scraps of textured and colored paper, pipe cleaners, and felt scraps to use for the craft. Cut the orange felt into little triangles to use for the beak.
Apply glue to the various textured papers and pipe cleaners.
Attach wings, textures, beak, googly eyes, and any other decorations you want to use. I think beads and buttons would be fun too.

Spring Chick in a Basket

 Instructions
  • pom-poms - large
  • egg carton
  • pipe cleaner
  • tissue paper
  • glue
  • felt
  • googly eyes
We gathered our materials and pulled a couple of egg cups from the egg carton.

I punched holes in the sides of the egg cups so the kids could make their baskets.

They each twisted a pipe cleaner through the holes to create a handle.

We added a little bit of tissue paper for grass, and a dot of glue to hold the pom pom in place

Now for the fun part! Two googly eyes and a felt beak finished off this fun spring craft.

They came out adorable. I especially like the pink one!
